Skin Pigmentation

Bid adieu to unwanted spotty skin and uneven skin tone.

What is Pigmentation?

The best way to describe pigmentation is to think of your skin, hair and body as a canvas painted in your own perfect shades.

If your entire body is the art board, pigment is the array of paint colours, shades, and hues that can be seen in your eyes, hair, and skin tone. Melanin is the key colour substance responsible for each of these different colour paints, and your melanocyte (meh-LAN-oh-site) cells are the mixers and containers in which the colours are stored.

Your melanocyte cells can tweak the amount and type of melanin they produce, giving you a range of skin colours from alabaster to ebony and everything in between. However, sometimes things can go haywire and produce too much or too little melanin, resulting in discolouration and uneven pigmentation, which can leave you with one spotty, splotchy canvas.

What Causes Pigmentation?

Skin pigmentation issues can be caused by various factors, from genetics to sun damage. Uncovering where your pigmentation problems have come from is like playing a game of Cluedo, but instead of solving a murder mystery, you're figuring out who stole (or gave you too much pigment). Was it Mrs. Genetics in the DNA with a recessive gene factor? Or Mr. Sun Damage in the UV rays with a side of sunscreen neglect?

Perhaps it was Professor Hormonal Changes in the body, with a dash of adolescence or pregnancy hormones? Reverend Ageing in the passage of time? Or could it be little Miss Medication in the kitchen? Whatever the cause, one thing's for sure - your skin is not playing nicely, and it's time to solve the mystery and show it who's boss.
