Skin Needling

Dull, scarred skin is transformed with the wave of our wand.

What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling, also known as micro-needling or "collagen induction therapy", is an ooh la la facial therapy! Word of warning – this is not your ordinary fluff and puff, feel-good facial. Still, it is known for the dramatic effect it has on your skin.

It's like acupuncture for your face, except instead of individual needles, we use a wand-like device (with 6 microscopic needles), which dances over the skin’s surface in a circular motion to create microscopic perforations.

These micro-injuries or tiny holes in the skin trigger your body’s healing process.

Think of it like a wake-up call for your skin cells, telling them to stop hitting the snooze button, it’s time to get to work producing more collagen and elastin.

As a double benefit to opening up these tiny vertical channels into the skin, serums and skincare products can be applied and absorbed deeper within the dermis, making a greater impact and giving you better results.

What Skin Concerns is Skin Needling Used For?

Skin Needling does its best work when used to improve the appearance of skin scarring and all skin issues associated with ageing. Why?  Because of its ability to generate new collagen and elastin and send it to the skin’s surface, filling in the gaps and indentations created by fine lines and wrinkles and smoothing out any lumps and bumps in the skin’s texture as a result of acne scarring or the signs of premature ageing.

It also does a tremendous job of repairing and restoring your skin due to sun damage.

Hooray! For a way to stop the ghosts of skin issues past, haunting your face into the future.

Preparing for Skin Needling

If you're serious about achieving your best skin yet, then an Advanced Skin Analysis is your very first step. Why? Because it can reveal things about your skin that you might not be aware of, such as underlying skin conditions or areas of concern that you may not have noticed. By having a professional skin therapist examine your skin, you can gain a better understanding of what type of skin you have, what issues you're currently facing, and what treatment steps you can take to improve your overall skin health.

Armed with this knowledge, you can then develop a personalised skincare routine and treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs, ensuring that you're using the right types of products and treatments to achieve the best possible results.

You will also want to discuss any medications or supplements you are taking with your skin therapist at this time, as some can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding or make skin issues worse.

After your Advanced Skin Analysis and prior to your Skin Needling appointment, there are a few things you can do to prepare beforehand. First, you will need to avoid using any exfoliating products or treatments, such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion, for at least a week prior to your appointment. It's also important to avoid any sun exposure or tanning beds in the days leading up to your appointment.

On the day of your appointment, arrive 10 minutes early with clean, makeup-free skin. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen, though.  We don’t provide any topical anaesthetic for the procedure as this stops blood flow to the surface of the skin and prevents effective healing. The procedure is a little uncomfortable and more like a mild sunburn, so you shouldn’t require any anaesthetic for the treatment. However, if you wish to apply it prior to treatment, we are happy for you to do so, but you will need to notify us when you arrive.

By taking these simple steps, you can help ensure that your skin-needling appointment is a magical, transformative experience.

Frequently Asked Questions About Skin Needling

  • While everyone's pain tolerance is different, Skin Needling is generally a well-tolerated procedure. A numbing cream can be applied beforehand to minimise discomfort during the treatment. However, we don’t recommend or provide it as it can hinder the healing process, which contributes to the results you’ll achieve through Skin Needling.

  • Results from Skin Needling can vary depending on the individual and the specific concerns being addressed. However, many people start to see improvements in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scarring within a few weeks of treatment.

  • It's common to experience mild redness and inflammation after Skin Needling, which usually subsides within a few days. In rare cases, more serious side effects such as infection or scarring can occur, so it's important to have the procedure done by a qualified professional with proper training and experience.

  • The number of Skin Needling treatments needed varies depending on the individual's specific concerns and the severity of the condition being addressed. Generally, a series of three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. However, your skin therapist can provide personalised recommendations based on your unique needs and goals during your skin analysis.
